The vague advice for creating a successful life is to “do what I love”. Well, I love doing nothing and playing video games. While noble, this isn’t always practical. A lot of the things that we must do to improve are uncomfortable, inconvenient, painful, or just a giant, nasty pain in the ass.
More often than not, I can’t even figure out what it is that I love to do. Realistically, I’m just not going to be able to always do what I love. Instead, I must focus on doing what I must do with love. That’s the key to self-mastery: do what you must, but with love. It’s not easy, but it can be.
